Recently my four year old announced that he wanted to learn to fish. As some one who doesn’t regularly fish and who isn’t familiar with the local fishing scene I scoured google and social media for recommendations of the best places to fish with kids on Sydney’s North Shore.
This is what I turned up:
Tunks Park
Tunks Park is located in Northbridge at the end of middle harbour. Facilities include a jetty, public toilets, fish cleaning facilities, bbq, disabled access and plenty of parking. More info available here
Bradley’s Head
This is a beautiful place to fish, however keep in mind that the stone jetty has no railings so safety with children (especially younger kids) is an issue. More info available here
The Spit Bridge
The Spit Bridge is the connection between Middle Harbour and Sydney Harbour. There’s a sandy beach under the bridge that makes a good spots to fish from with the kids. More info here.
Clifton Gardens
Offers a great kid friendly fishing spot with the added bonus of a big playground nearby. Additional info here.
Berowra waters
The Marina is a good spot to fish with kids. There are loads of fish swimming around as well as a marine-themed playground should the kids get tired of fishing. The kids will love going over the river on the car ferry. Food is available at the café but can be a little expensive, so pack a picnic lunch if you wish to save a little cash.
Bobbin head
Bobbin Head is located in the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park. It is a great place to go fishing, bushwalk or paddle, has a playground which is great if the kids get bored of fishing, and is a perfect spot for a waterfront picnic. More info available here
Narabeen lakes
There is a good spot to fish with kids near the bridge.
The Basin
Access this area via ferry from Palm Beach wharf
